EVAN SMITH

Born and raised in Dallas , Texas , tenor saxophonist Evan Smith has much experience in small and large jazz ensembles, and has played with many up-and-coming jazz musicians. With his high school jazz combo, Evan won the 2001 Monterey Jazz Festival High School Jazz Competition, and the opportunity to perform at the 2001 Monterey Jazz Festival. As a high school student, he played with the Meadows Jazz Orchestra at Southern Methodist University. In Dallas , Evan studied with Texas tenor-man Shelly Carrol, under whose tutelage his style/ sound began to develop. Evan has played with Dallas-based musicians Drew Phelps, Mark Gulley, Roger Boykin and Alan Green (to name a few) and such artists as Phil Woods and Roy Hargrove.

Currently, Evan attends McGill University in Montréal, Québec where he has studied and played with André Leroux, Frank Lozano, Remí Bolduc, Kevin Dean, André White, Kieran Overs and Joe Sullivan. Evan's current projects include Jeska Quintet, the quartet .exe , and an upcoming recording of his own compositions.
